Verden kalder, Die Welt ruft, The World is Calling

Jakob und Rieke auf Weltenreise

Back in the Hood

It's a cloudy and mild Thursday night and our tv (that is functioning as radiator) is playing a weird game show while the obnoxious whistle of a hopelessly struggling traffic guide leads a symphony of the somewhat chaotic and never sleeping capital and it's dirty streets. Since this afternoon we're back in Lima after the long trip along the Pacific coast from central Chile, and gosh: We have seen so much!

After a hectic journey from our hotel by the peaceful delta lakes on the Pacific Coast to the bus terminal at the highway PE-1S outside of town, we get on a allegedly four hour, but with traffic five hour trip to the center of Lima (La Vitoria). Seats 11 and 12 are right underneath the speakers and of course PeruBus is playing violent movies and irrelevant commercials; our theory is that people don't go to cinemas in Peru or Chile since being on a bus feels just like it... ;) Luckily, we have headphones and the view to the world outside is catches more attention. The coastal desert comprises it´s vital rivers that like giant arteries provide life to larger farming areas and a look onto my mobile map makes me smile: I have all ready been here and marked the area as “giantic green zone” on Riekes and my very first bus trip here (to Cusco) and so much has happened since then. Corn, asparagus, lettuces, cotton, and much more is grown along the coastal highway and small fences around sheds try to claim property. Around 4pm, we step onto the dangerous roads, eventually buy the next bus tickets, and find our lodging for tonight.”

Tomorrow, we are going to the “Selva” and hope to return on the 8th.”
